Assalaamu’alaykum,
The first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah are those of great reward and importance to the believers. The Messenger of Allaah, peace be upon him, said: “There are no deeds as excellent as those done in these ten days.” They (the companions listening) said, “Not even Jihâd?” He, peace be upon him, said, “No, not even Jihâd except a man who goes forth endangering his life and wealth and does not return with anything.” [Recorded by al-Imâm al-Bukhârî].

From this hadeeth we realise that, any form or act of worship, any type of charity is great and rewarded highly by Allaah. Thus we should strive to make at least these 10 days, another turning point or boost in our eemaan.
It’s common that people like myself, lose eemaan, begin to slack in worship after Ramadhaan, thus this is a great time to ‘catch-up’ if you like.

During these 10 days, one can pray more, offering more sunnah and nawaafil prayers, maybe even qiyaam al layl. Ibn Hajar says in Fath al-Bârî: “The most apparent reason for the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah being distinguished in excellence is due to the assembly of the greatest acts of worship in this period, i.e. salawât (prayers), siyâm (fasting), sadaqah (charity) and the hajj (pilgrimage). In no other periods do these great deeds combine.” Hence, striving and intending to fulful such acts and deeds should act as a means of forgiveness and mercy for us.

What have I been doing so far? It is now the 3rd of Dhul Hijjah, I have attempted to make my lifestyle ‘freeer’ and give my deen, my ‘ibaadah more priority than other things. So I have managed to pray qiyaam once and wish to do this again. I’ve make making reciting the Qur’aan and supplications frequently throughout the day a habit. isn’t it better that our tongues offer something beneficial to us as a reminder and means of forgiveness? Sayign Takbeer (Allaahu Akbar), Tasbeeh (SubhaanAllaah) and Tahmeed (Alhamdulillaah) is beneficial as Al-Imâm Bukhârî, may Allah have mercy on him, said: “Ibn ‘Umar and Abû Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with them both, used to go out to the markets in the ten days saying the takbîr causing the people to follow them in this action.” Saying Takbeer isn’t limited to one authetnic method alone- maybe researching this with the niyyah to improve can be your task for the first 10 days!

I have also been trying to fast (have done up until now, inshaa’Allaah) and wish to continue with my siyaam until the day of ‘Arafah. Hanbada ibn Khâlid reports on the authority of his wife who reports that some of the wives of the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: The Prophet, upon whom be peace, would fast on the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah, the day of Âshûra and three days in every month. [Recorded by Ahmad, Abu Dâwûd, an-Nisâî and others] Al-Imâm an-Nawawî said that fasting in these ten days is extremely recommended.

Sorry for writing so much! May Allaah enable us to earn much reward from these first days, and enable us to increase in good deeds aameen.

Just as we do all within our means to not miss any big sales or offers, we should try our utmost to make best use of these most blessed of days, inshaAllah.

Some easy pointers:
1. fasting – with short winter days, this is easier than ever. esp not to miss the day of yaumal arafah.

2. increased zikr – subahanallah, alhamdulillah, walailahaillallah, wallahuakbar.

3. try to memorize something from quran – one easy way to do this is to print it out and carry that paper around with you. you can memorize while walking or taking the bus or train.

4. try to make solat tahajjud – also an easy task with long winter nights.

5. praying for the ummah and the whole of humanity – we are going through very hard times now, and the near future dont look any better.

may Allah help us to score some extra points in these blessed days. ameen.

That was very pertinent. Sadly, its become a norm now to either out-source or stay physically away from one’s udhiyah (& all messiness that it entails) even in Muslim majority countries.

The abattoirs are jam packed on Eid day. The whole process is highly mechanized. People bring their animals in trucks & pick-ups & stand in special queues for lamb/goat, cows & camels. Each one is given a token number when they hand-over their animal to the in-charges. They can then go and sit in the ‘viewing balcony’ (with their popcorn & drinks!) to watch their animal passing through the entire ‘assembly line’. The actual slaughter is done by hand (though the animal is held immobile by some machine) & the entire process after that is mechanized. After an hour, you go to the other end, submit your token number & collect the meat in nice clean packets.

The whole process is very clean, modern & efficient alhumdullilah. But I can’t help but wonder if the essence & spirit of sacrificing by hand remains.

I understand that for most people this has been a difficult year, I’ve had my share, Alhamdulillah. I also feel that the reward from Allah SWT is also near and we should not despair, but make taubah and remain patient. Allah SWT has promised to answer our du’aa’ and He SWT is shy to return our du’aa’ empty-handed.
Please keep me & the Ummah in your du’aa’s.

May Allah SWT grant us the best in this life, the best in the akhirah, the protection from the punishment of the grave, protection from the hellfire, & protect us from the seduction of the dajjal. Amiin.
May Allah SWT forgive us of all our sins, great & small, those we committed in secret & those we committed in public, the ones we are aware of & the ones we are unaware of, the first one & the last one, every single one of them. Amiin.
May Allah SWT’s Mercy be upon us all. Amiin.
May Allah SWT grant us health and increase in halal rizq. Amiin.
And for all those who are in pain & suffering from diseases, sicknesses, and illnesses…May Allah SWT grant the reward for those afflictions and replace it with what is better. Amiin. May Allah SWT grant us ease, relief, and the cure. Amiin.
May Allah SWT remove from us our debts, shield us from riba, and protect us from needing anything from anyone except Himself SWT. Amiin.

Jai jakALLAHu khayrun to those who already posted some beneficial points for all of us to apply in this 10 special days oh Dhul Hijjah. Jai JakALLAHu khayrun to the people also who created such a nice drive- halfdate.

A question has been asked that what I am doing in this blessed time. Actually I am trying to perform my Salah on time and with more concentration and focus. I am also trying to increase my reading and understanding Quran, Listen to some good lectures, fasting when possible, night prayers, ad-doha prayers and as a whole trying to be busy in good deeds. Such as feeding or helping others, giving good advice, sharing some beneficial learning etc. ALso trying to pray for all. I don’t know how much will be accepted by ALLAH but I am trying to seek ALLAH’s forgiveness and to do deeds which may win ALLAH’s favours. May ALLAH guide us all.

well i am a convert alahmdullilah, so i have not done much this hajj, i have been studying a lot more about islam and i did fast the fist 6 days alahmdulluilah and talking and giving dawah to muslims and non muslims mashallah but that is all really.

Plus remember who has created you from dust? by saying alahmdullilah, subbhanallah, mashallah, astafrullah and keep your toung wet with the love of allah and his messenger mohammed (pbuh),

make sure when you see a muslim you say salam alkum to them and wa alkum salam because this makes you and them both gain the rewards of allah inshallah,

when you are around non muslims be nice with them and if you cn help them do so because if they see muslims being good they will want to know more about islam and mybe they will convert if allah wills this upon them and you will gain the reward also inshallah,

also read as much quran as possible because the quran is the book to how to live life the correct halal way,

remember also smile is the biggest dawa a muslim can do to a muslim and non muslim,

the last thing is that we should encorage and teach our children about hajj and about islam from a early age inshallah

Most Muslims don’t make pilgrimage as soon as they can because they have children to take care of. So what can we do as Muslims to help the parent(s) have the opportunity to make Hajj?

It was reported from Abu Qutaadah (may Allah be pleased
with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and prayer
of Allah be upon him) was asked about fasting on the Day of
Arafah. He said, “It expiates for the sins of the
previous year and of the coming year.” Collected by Muslim.

Slaughtering the sacrifice is better than giving its price in charity
If there are poor people in my country who need money, can I give them the price of the sacrifice in charity, or should I offer the sacrifice?.

Praise be to Allaah.

Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

Slaughtering the sacrifice is better than giving its price in charity, because that was what the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and the Muslims with him did. And because the sacrifice is one of the ritual of Islam; if the people turn away from it and give charity instead, that symbol will die out. If giving the price of the sacrifice in charity was better than slaughtering the sacrifice, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) would have explained that to his ummah in word and deed, because he did not omit to explain anything that was good for the ummah. Indeed, if giving charity was equal to offering the sacrifice he would have explained that too, because it is easier than going to the trouble of offering the sacrifice. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) never failed to point out the easier option to his ummah when it was equal to the more difficult option. There was a famine during the lifetime of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and he said, “Whoever among you offers a sacrifice should not keep any of it in his house for more than three days.”

The following year, they said, “O Messenger of Allaah, should we do what we did last year?” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Eat and feed the poor and store some, for last year the people were having a hard time and I wanted you to help them.” Agreed upon.

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: Sacrifice when prescribed is better than giving its price in charity. He said, Hence even if you give many times more the value of the sacrifice for tamattu’ and qiraan, it will never take its place, and the same applies to udhiyah.

Risaalat Ahkaam al-Udhiyah wa’l-Dhakaah

Our MAS youth group had an Eid Toy Drive and wrapped gifts yesterday and then went to take the gifts to the Muslim Refugee children. It was a great feeling, al7amdulilah. We just had community members donate gently used or new toys and money to buy these kids toys for Eid. I think that all Muslim communities should do this and can do this for their less fortunate fellow Muslims. May Allah accept all our good deeds in these ten days…Ameen

Assembling in the masjid early in the morning along with the muslims from my community was reminiscent of Taraweeh prayers in Ramadhan
The togetherness and unity reminded me of how I missed coming to the masjid on a daily basis

‘Eed Mubaarak, taqabbalAllaahu minnee wa minnkum wa ghafarAllaahu lee wa lakum to begin with.
My ‘Eed..was pretty quiet this year, My day began by encouraging everyone to perform ghusl after fajr, and heading our for salaatul ‘eed shortly afterwards, not allowing anyone to talk in the car but say takbeer instead.
After the salaah, we returned home, got ready and went to my grans, the meat arrived very late in the evening…and the whole day was awaiting its arrival. So I was bored.
However, we cooked and ate, and things got a lil more lively, the next day family visited my house…more cooking, cleaning, eating and hosting guests!
Alhamdulillaah for everything…I thin for me the main things missing were;
a) most of the kids,
b) distinguishing our ‘eed from festivals of other faiths.

Eid mubarak brothers and sisters! Alhumdulillah azza wajjal, I had a real good Eid. the best part was that my family actually sat down to have breakfast together at home. We almost never get to do that anymore. I love Eid!

May Allah bless us all and our families and preserve us to enjoy another Eid!

The best part about this Eid for me was helping my young relatives feel like it’s a special day. We decorated the living room, exchanged gifts, and just had fun together, alhamdulillaah.

I still miss Eid in old times when I was young! We were back in “the East” where we would wear new clothes, visit family friends and have them visit back, get money and gifts, go down to the corner shop and get little fire crackers and chocolates…no one had to go to work or school. We’d go to the park or somewhere where we could play…we’d eat out…it was really fun.

Eid was disappointing to me…I didn’t get to do anything, I didn’t even pray!! I am in school without a car, the closest mosque is miles away and there is no one to ask for a ride. Mashallah things will change for the better next year.

eid, allhamdullilah was great for me. we prayed in a park close by with many people and had breakfast there. we visited relatives and then spent the whole day and lunch in a hall slash park, eating nice food. hope you all had a great eid too.

I just want to share one of my favourite Hadith:
The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings me upon him) said : the closest to me on the Day of Judgement will be those Best in Manners.

Dear Aminat Said, Eid or any day should not be disapointed to us. Why??
because we are moslems and everything what happend to us is khair for us inshaallah. How?? We will have revords even for sabr.
I was alone on Eid also, pregnant 9th month, last week, waiting 3th baby. My husband is in another country and my kids were also faar from me…
I called my husband and told him that I feel like Hajer when Ibrahem a.s. leave her with kid in desert. I was really feeling so lonely.
But my husband said that he hope that we will have revord as Hajer and Ibrahem had inshaallah. That made me happy…so at last this was great Eid…because I am waiting big revord inshaallah and waiting my baby also ))

The night before I messaged all my family abroad warm Eid greetings (I know impersonal, but keeping those ties nevertheless!). I also contacted friends and acquaintances via email, phone and text messaging.

I missed Eid prayers for the first time in a while. I had an unexpected obligation and there was no way out of it! I pleaded and begged but no alternative was available, and I had to accept the fact. Alhumdulilah, I had a night class the same day but the professor approved my absence via email, so I got to attend a wonderful dinner. One of my convert friends got to attend an Eid dinner for the first time, so it made the event even more special. She was so kind to buy me a gift from Bath and Body Works (made me happy, alhumdulilah!).

I had to make a quick stop (at Walmart) on the way home that night. In the store, I bumped into 2 Muslimahs and I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face! We exchanged Eid greetings and made it our separate ways.

Although my Eid wasn’t a “typical” one, alhumdulilah I got to feel the festivities.

Eid Mubarak, and may the Ummah be stronger and united on our next Eid. Allahuma Ameen.

Eid mubarak everyone!

Alhamdulillah I had the chance to travel with my family to Morocco so we celebreated Eid here. SubhanAllah it’s a different world here on the Eid (as compared to the US) – there are sheep everywhere and everyone is off from school and work so it feels more like how Eid should be Alhamdulillah! I also got to see how they slaughter and prepare the sheep so Alhamdulillah it’s been a very interesting one so far.

May Allah forgive us and accept all our deeds.

Assalamalaikum warahmatulahi wabarakatuhu brothers and sisters, i was just reading some of the stories about how some of our brothers and sisters celebrate eid in their respective countries and it just made me so very thankful for where i live, and how that allows me to enjoy eid to the fullest, i hope and pray that may Allah sweeten this and all other eids for all our brothers and sisters all around the world, ameen

Eid was wonderful thanks Be. I missed the prayer(I know, I know) But in the evening we had 5 couples over for a potluck and gift exchange-it was fun until someone’s baby threw up in my living room! hahaha
Well we’re still eating leftovers so the spirit of that evening is still with us : )
IsA next year will find us all in Hajj together.

Alhamduillah, I had a wonderful Eid this year. We went to Eid prayers in the morning, and exchanged salams and greetings with family and friends. Then we went to eat at a resteraunt later on and went to the mall to walk around for awhile.

It’s too bad though, because I got a stomach virus the very next day..probably from the resteraunt food, lol.

I hope that everyone has had a wonderful Eid as well!

We had a good time, we cooked Qurbani meat in a huge pot for almost 40 people, and Alhamdulillah, it was full of Barakah.
I absolutely LOVE sorting the meat, especially when its still warm! ; )

My name is Shoaib. I am currently on a small 4×4 mile Caribbean island called Sint Eustatius with a local population of about 3000. The Muslim population here consists of a handful of local Muslims, the majority of Muslims here are students at the medical university here.

Our Eid was unique…to start the month of Dhul Hijjah off, the cops busted me for a broken brake light, only then to find out that i don’t have a proper island license, and I only have my American one. Alhamdulilah they didn’t give me any tickets, but rather only told me to get it fixed and tell them when I did. But this was all a plan, a blessing rather, from Allah Subhan wa ta3ala. Without a car I had no choice but to walk to class which is about a 15-20 minute walk, I had no choice but to walk to the masjid, and to walk to the grocery store, etc etc. And as I started out walking I thought to myself…”what a great time for takbir”…so Alhamdulilah it was a blessing in disguise.

On Eid day I decided to get to the masjid early. I went there around 5:30 for fajr, and the Eid prayer was at 7. And on an island so small, and on an island so ignorant to Islam (with the exception of the few local Muslims), it is a big blessing for everyone to hear the praises of Allah being sent out…Islam truly transcends every race, every nationality and every person.

After the Eid prayer and khutbah, and after a short bayaan about sacrifice from one of the brothers here, we all met and embraced one another. After that we went for brunch, and after that came time for qurbani. This was my first time actually sacrificing a sheep (or any other animal for that matter) rather than sending money out to have it done for me. It feels good when one carries out an obligation that has been put upon you from Allah, it feels even better when u do it willingly and happily.

Although I missed my family and friends from back home a lot, I have grown into a new family here on the island. May Allah grant us success in this life and the hereafter and accept our deeds, may Allah guide us here on the island and the Muslims elsewhere, and may Allah make His praises heard in every household of the earth. ameen.

well my eid was alahmdullilah good, As i am a convert my family are all christain so they was looking forward to christmas so they was not really intrested that it was eid for me so i had to sit in my room and just watch islamic lectures and there is no masjid near me so i was sat alone and listening to some islamic nasheeds and watching the islam channel on sky which was really good watching the gpu (goloble peace unity) event in london which i always enjoy and i could not saulator my own meat so i went to the butchers and got some from there and i cooked a nice meal and gave some to my neighbours as a good deen may allah accept my efforts and also then i watched an animal get sauloughted in the hajj as live hajj was on the noor channel on sky so yes it was great and i really did enjoy it

thankyou halfdate for giving me the oppitunitys to share my story on eid with the ummah and i really enjoy the chance to read everyones stories they always make my heart fill up with love alahmdullilah Jazak’ Allah to everyone

Dear sis and bros’,

I was reading some of your stories and MashaAllah they are all different and made me really happy to know how each of you spent Eid day.
Here, in my hometown, everything went well Alhamdolilah. The only thing I regret is not having performed Eid Prayer.. we were too late and the masjid was crowded MAshaAllah!! We could fortunately listen to the Khutbah Alhamdolilah.. then we embraced and and my family and I went straight away to bring our sheep home.. So we lived again the experience of going to the farmer !!! Waaaw… and what an amazing experience!!! I loved it and will always love it!
Then, my father slaughtered it.. we took some pictures and worked together to finish the ”job” so that we could do a big barbecue in the yard…

I am summing-up my Eid day..but seriously.. it was just so gooooooooooooooooooooood Alhamdulilah.

” Hope you can understand something of my poor English..” I would have liked to write it down in French but the thing is.. I guess some of you guys can’t understand French…

Alhamdulillah, we had a lovely gathering for Eid, mainly for Chinese Muslims.

People of all ages came, seniors to children

Alhamdulillah, we had great food, speeches, and socialization.

Some reverts brought their non-Muslim family members, which was very nice. One speaker mentioned about how Muslims are not alone in this celebration, because Hajj, Kaabah, sacrifice, salah, and fasting are related to many other prophets (peace and prayers be upon them). Another speaker mentioned that Islam is the fastest growing religion and it’s a big blessing from Allah for us and the humanity at large.

EID MUBARAK FROM TORONTO!!!!

I was late for eid prayer i had to take the bus from 2 cities away to get to my masjid. im happy they have 2 eid prayers one after the other so that people who missed the first can do the second…. usually i ride there with a friend and have to leave quickly after its over cuz she gotta work but when i was alone this year i got to stay til most people had come and gone…. i love seeing the diversity African Asian Mediterranean caucasion and all in between!!! the different styles of clothes and colors and personalities I LOVE u all fisibillah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does being nice to the mean cat count as a sadaqah???? cuz that cat is BAD!
