Date Palms Drive

2009
02.10

Summary:
The goal of this drive is to train the Ummah to work more effectively.

عن ‏ابن عمر ‏عن النبي ‏صلى الله عليه وسلم‏ ‏قال‏: إن من الشجر لما بركته كبركة المسلم … هي النخلة . رواه البخاري

“There is a tree among the trees which is as blessed as a Muslim.” -collected by Al-Bukhari

HalfDate is 1-yr-old now, alhamdulillah.

It’s time to build our first DateFarm by cultivating HalfDaters to become DatePalms.

datefarm_by_cairocarol

It all started with one hadith of the prophet (salla Allahu ‘aalaihi wa sallam), one weekend, and one slice of pizza!

Soub-ha-na-Allah (Glory be to Allah), during the past 12 months Muslims from different walks of the Ummah have united to accomplish 13 dateDrives. Drives ranged from awareness campaign to fundraising ones, where HalfDaters like you have donated over $27,000.

So, to thank Allah for this success, we need to train more volunteers to fulfill more requests.

Therefore, it’s time to build our first DateFarm by cultivating HalfDaters like you to become DatePalms :)

DateDrive Goal:

  • Train at least 30 HalfDaters to become DatePalms (it’s a professional training with a fee, and when you volunteer for HalfDate later you get paid to offset the the training cost).

If you want to MAKE a difference, if you want to CHANGE the world with half a date or a pleasant word, join the training and become a DatePalm.

Who will give the training?

Brother Mohammed, UK. Specialty in productivity for teams and individuals

Mohammed is the founder of ProductiveMuslim.com, which explores productivity from an Islamic perspective. He looks into the Quran, the Seerah, and the history of the Islamic civilization for snippets and life hacks that would make our life more productive. He draws his experience from his four years at Bristol University working for Bristol ISOC (two years as General Secretary and one year as President), and his passion to read and follow all the latest in productivity. His recent travels to the Middle-East with a visionary and inspirational CEO has also added to his knowledge and expertise. Mohammed provides varied resources and advice on a broad range of topics including becoming an executive, team leadership skills, communication, and Islamic tips on management. He joined hands with FOSIS in 2008 to focus on training Islamic Societies across the UK in order to “help elevate their duties into a form of worship rather than simply an activity of a student society”.

Alhamduallah! This is great! Everyone send this notice to all you know. Encourage them to be a halfdater today! May Allah reward the Believers with Paradise for working together in this manner.

  2. sounds like a fascinating concept…I’ll be sure to present the idea during our next MSA board meeting!

  3. Testimonial says:

It has been pleasure to have known the admin of HalfDate for past 6 years,
where I have seen him in different roles in the community.

Masha’Allah, he is quite adept in connecting with people from various
backgrounds and positively influencing them. He has a good sense of
humor and at the same time, has inherent ability to deliver the
    message succinctly.

I feel confident in recommending him and am certain that he would be
able to make a positive impact in whichever endeavors he engages in.

  4. A sister says:

our local masjid is experiencing low turn out because its run by bigots who hate converts inserting their opinions about living in America as Muslims. They treat our mosque like a cultural club for their immigrant culture & drive off anyone who opposed their dictatorship. That is the cause of their situation & even if I suggested it…. it would be a nail in the coffin of the workshop because I am one of those “black listed” Muslim Americans… who opens her mouth & exercises her free speech rights… HOW DARE I! LOL

You may do better to use http://www.islamicfinder.com and email each masjid indepantly so that they are informed about your workshop.

My area masjid has made it clear that I’m not welcome. So for your sake, its best that I not be mentioned. Besides its run by professors who believe it should only be run by men with PhDs… even though the Beloved Prophet would not qualify under their elitist requirements.

    Salaam

  5. Mohammed Lee says:

    Asalaim-Alaikum,

Jazak Allahu Khair for giving me the opportunity for writing this testimonial.

My family and I have benefited from listening to your speech in many ways.
You have helped us to stay focused on getting closer to Allah (swt) and
reminded us from daily basics to variety of other issues involved in living
in today’s society (especially in America).

I think one of the reasons that we enjoy your lecture is that you are able to approach topics /issues from non-traditional (fresh) perspectives and your down to earth practical style to tackle issues surrounding us. You have helped the audience to see the facts clearly through the Quranic Verses and Hadith.

Insha Allah we would like to invite you back to our community for
future Islamic conferences and enrichment classes. May Allah (swt) bless you
with the best in this life and hereafter.

  13. muslima206 says:

    ASA.

I’ve worked as an elected officer of the Muslim Students Association on my campus (i have since graduated alhamdulilah) while volunteering as a community organizer with my Local CAIR chapter.

Beyond that I have also worked lvolunteered at my local Islamic School, while making hijra to study Islam in the middle east for a short but intensive period of time.

I have done public speaking, spoken word performances, and short lectures about Islam. I am an unnofficial da’iee all day everyday, however I have also been invited to classes on my campus as well as other local colleges to speak with the non Muslims about islam. I take it very personally when Islam is slandered and I do my best to answer back with accurate answers that are fitting and beautiful.
I’ve been muslim just over a year, but in that amount of time I have busied myself with islamic conferences, community meetings, volunteering, learning the deen, muslim civil rights, promoting Islam on my University campus, and reaching out with various forms of dawa. Please go to youtube.com and view one of my dawa efforts by typing in the search term “I love my hijab” there is a spoken word piece written and performed by me that I recorded while I was in yemen studying the deen ( I’m wearing an orange hijab and black abaya).

I am currently working on a project to enter the prisons in my area with the message of Islam, as there are many muslima converts behind bars who are deprived the right of learning their fard ‘ayn. I have a proven record of seriousness within a short amount of time, allahualim, ma selama

  14. Anonymous says:

I would love to take part in the training but unfortunately can’t afford to do that during this time. I have a part-time job walhamdo Lillah but it pretty much pays for my bills!

I don’t like making excuses because I know that when a person has the right intention to do something and makes an effort and depends of Allah, He Subhanahu wa Ta’ala makes a way for him.

Jazakum Allah khair for creating such a great project and for sure I will make dua’ for you and all who participate that Allah makes your efforts successful(and will make dua’ for the rest of the Ummah to join insha’Allah). Best of luck :)

I have an event planned this coming weekend and I will mention your name and efforts there insha’Allah.

  15. Omar says:

Alhamdulillah the program looks very beneficial. Inshallah hopefully it will make something out of mehelp me benefit others more effectively

  16. Young Anonymous Muslimah says:

    salaams,
Are you planning to make more date farms in the future Insha’Allah?

  17. admin says:

    Young Anonymous Muslimah

    wa alaikum assalam

The plan is to develop/train HalfDaters into DatePalms, then those DatePalms will form DateFarms :)

So, if your question: Are these training going to be offered in the future?

We are not sure at the moment.

  18. Ms J says:

I am a training junkie … and I think that money is just an object used to achieve a greater purpose … and if something is beneficial then it should be pursued … and you are saying that 145 is too much? I think that ppl go out and easily spend that much on say movies and dinner … ok a higher end dinner … but still!!

  19. Admin (Why people like you joined) says:

    A student from Australia:

    1. want a ‘life changing’ experience.
    2. have seen how just within 1 year Halfdate has been really successful.
    3. The presenters sound really good.
    4. $147 is not too bad, especially with the ‘pay in your currency’ rule.
    5. want to volunteer for halfdate.

    A mom from Australia:

Why do you think volunteering for HalfDate is worthy of your time?
    * It promotes causes that are often forgotten about i.e. Recycling drive.
    * It shows that there is more to charity then just giving money to beggars.
    * It really emphasis and reminds us all that Charity can be done by every limp
    * And I will be very lucky to be apart of it – inshallah.

  20. imam says:

    “Before Feb 27th, $147…
    After Mar 10th, $249.”

Sorry, this isn’t very clear. What about the period from Feb 27 – Mar 10?

    [Admin: Thanks, issue fixed]

Also, what is the total expected duration of the training?

[Admin: Each module are about 30-120 min. Modules will be released each week, in-sha-Allah]
