My Productive Ramadan Drive

DateDrive of Ramadan 1430/Sept 2009

Alhamdulillah, this is the 2nd Ramadan for HalfDate. Last year, HalfDaters helped to raise over $20,000 and have completed several projects, see this article. This year, we will have a productivity race among supporters of different projects, because Ramadan is a month of productivity, not laziness.

So, this drive will include:

  1. A productivity training for you,
Do you know the secrets of ProductiveRamadan? click here
  2. A productivity race among non-profit projects (each week only those projects that met certain goals will be advanced to the next round, the finalists will get special prize, inshaAllah)
  3. Round 1: By Sept 1st, achieve 10% of your goal or 20 testimonials from your fans (posted as comments)
Round 2: By Sept 7th, achieve 50% of your goal or $3000
Round 3: By Sept 15th, achieve 77% of your goal or get voted to stay by HalfDaters
Final: You survived and you make at least one of the following: 1- publish a video (no music please) 2- do a teleseminar fundraiser, or 3- get a news coverage for your DateDrive.

Specific Need: $3,000.00 for her expenses

A young sister with 6 beautiful children is being evicted from her apartment by the end of the month. She has no means of transportation as her car has been stolen! She’s trying hard to find a home and a job, and even when she does she will need to spend money to pay a babysitter to watch the kids while she’s at work. She’s been walking all over town in the summer heat dragging her kids along with her in hopes of finding something, spending any little money she has on bus and taxi fare. MashaAllah she is very active in her community and puts her kids in Islamic classes and teaches classes herself – free of charge! Despite her situation, she is always smiling and looks so content and yet thankful to Allah.

She is in dire need of help just to cover food and traveling expenses and will need even more money to deposit when inshaAllah she finds an apartment. I can’t think of anyone more tested or deserving than her for this help, so inshaAllah please donate generously to help our dear sister in Islam who strives to carry the banner of this deen and who works hard in da’wah as well. She is a pillar subhanAllah.

As for the booklet, it’s based on hadith that says everyday you do 360 Sadaqah for each joint. So, the booklet will contain 1- verses about Sadaqah 2- Hadiths about Sadaqah 3- Ideas of Sadaqah 4- Motivational quotes of people who gave or received 5- inspirational stories about giving.

    • Abuayisha

Life is soooo very short! We do not know if we will see the end of Ramadan, fast one day, or live to see next Ramadan. May Allah bless this effort! I pray for success beyond all of our dreams. Ramadan, the month of khair is back.

    • Abu Abdulqaadir

May Allah bless us to get the most out of this Ramadan.

      Assalamu Alaikum,

I guess I missed the deadline for the productivity race. But I have an ayah about sadaqah that I wanted to post. Surah Baqarah Ayah 261: The likeness of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah, is like the likeness of a grain (of corn); it grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains. Allah gives manifold increase to whom He wills. And Allah is All-Sufficient for his creatures’ needs, All-Knower.

    • Al-Madinah School

      Assalamu alaikum,

Khalil, thank you for your kind words and please, please pray for us! On this blessed first night of Ramadan, we have received our first $100 donation – Allah-u-Akbar!

    • Ali

      Assalamu alaykum,

As a working college student with many bills and a low income, I was able to give a $100 donation to Al Madinah School. As a former student of Al Madinah School I believe it is essential to keep this school running. It has provided me with top notch islamic education, something rare in grade schools. Donating should be the least we can do in this blessed month of ramadan where all of our deeds of good become better. I hope you guys reach your goal, and the hearts and pockets of people open up towards this goal. It is a very important one.

    • Farooq

As a parent faced with the challenge to raise my children as muslim children in a society where the Islamic way of life is made to seem strange, an Islamic school like Al Madinah is truly a blessing from Allah. And knowing first hand how difficult it is to fund a project like this where at least half of the student body really cant afford private education, the only recourse after first turning to Allah for His help ,is to then turn to our generous brothers and sisters who are looking to reap a great reward in this life and the next(in sha Allah),is to support a Muslim child and assist him/her learn Allah`s Deen :D eenul Islaam. And perhaps Allah may make your generous gift/support a Sadaqatun Jaariyyatuna (an ongoing charity that benefits the donor even after the person departs from this world) as taught to us by the Messenger of Allah(sallallahu alaihee wa sallam).

    • abuayisha

One of the things the companions used to do is compete with each other in good deeds. Even if they were doing more good deeds than the majority of companions, if there were a few people (or even one person) doing more than them, they would strive to beat that person in good deeds. (And among other things, they used to ask frequently: Which is the MOST beloved deed to Allah?)
      You bet they’d be interested.

Recorded below is one such hadith, where the poor people complained to the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و سلم). Complained that they were poor? No! Complained they didn’t have a BMW, a five-story house? No! Complained that they couldn’t donate as much for the sake of Allah as the rich people! Subhanallah! (That’s one of the qualities that made them so much more better than us.)
And that’s precisely what we’re discussing!
Abu Hurairah narrated that Abu Dharr said to the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و سلم): “The wealthy people have all the rewards; they pray as we pray; they fast as we fast; and they have surplus wealth which they give in charity; but we have no wealth which we may give in charity.” Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said: “Abu Dharr, should I not teach you phrases by which you acquire the rank of those who excel you? No one can acquire your rank except one who acts like you. [...] Say Allahu Akbar thirty-three times; and say Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah) thirty-three times; and say SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah) thirty-three times; and end it by saying, Laa ilaaha illallahu wahdahu la shareeka lahu, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu yuhyi wa yomeetu wa Huwa ‘ala kulli shayin Qadeer. (There is no god but Allah alone, He has no partner, to Him belongs the Kingdom, to Him praise is due and He has power over everything.) Your sins will be forgiven, even if they are like the foam of the sea.” [Recorded in Abu Dawud, #1499]
That’s it. It’s that easy! Give your excuses a black eye, and start donating. In fact, people in our communities today don’t do this; so you can beat them all, in the sight of Allah–all of them. By applying this hadith consistently.
And after this hadith was narrated, the rich people mentioned in it ALSO heard this hadith. And THEY started doing this too! Subhanallah, that’s stiff competition! So the poor people came back and complained again to the Prophet; and he said: “Haadhaa fadlullahi, yu’tiyhu man yashaa.” (This is the bounty of Allah, He gives to whom He wishes.)
And the Messenger of Allah told us that sadaqa does not decrease wealth. So you can bet you’ll get this back–every bit of it.
So what are you waiting for?

    • Al-Madinah School

      Allah-U-Akbar! First day of fasting and another $100 donation received. Thank you very much for your support and please know that;

“He who relieves a hardship of this Dunya (this earthly life)
for a believer, Allah will relieve a hardship of the Day of
Resurrection for him; he who makes it easy for an indebted
person, Allah will make it easy for him in the Dunya and
the Hereafter; he who covers a Muslim (his mistakes and
shortcomings), Allah will cover him in the Dunya and
the Hereafter; Allah will be in the slave ‘s need, as long as
the slave is in his (believing) brother’s need…” [Saheeh Muslim]

      Assalamualaikum again.
Hey how can i join the productivity race??
and is it sadaqah if your donating to a charity, like actual real moneys going to them for FREE??

    • Sister Hala

Assalamu alaikum Rahmatulli wa Ramadan Mubarak,

      Brothers and Sisters,

I have taught Arabic and Quran at Al-Madinah School for 20 years. Prior to this I worked at two other Muslim schools, one in the United States and the other abroad. I found at Al-Madinah School people working for the sake of Allah to raise children who love the religion of Islam and feel proud being Muslims. This gave me energy to continue striving and struggling with Al-Madinah School. My own kids feel this school is their second home and they are always happy to go to school. They know love and care from staff members as if teachers are their own parents!

Through my many years I have seen our students become doctors, engineers, teachers, attorneys, nurses and other careers. Best of all they are Muslim men and women practicing Islam. Three have memorized the Qur’an; mashallah, and we pray Allah will bless us with more.

The prophet (PBUH) said: ‘Seven (types of) people will be covered with Allah’s shade on a day when there is no shade but His Shade, (from among them) a man who gives a charity hiding it, that (even) his left hand does not know what his right hand has spent’.

Last year one of our teachers died. May Allah have mercy on her. How amazing, that even when she was in the hospital, prior to her death, suffering, she would call me with field trip plans for the children and seeking information about her classroom. She said ‘I can’t wait to get back to my babies.’ She used to phone her students. Allah decided in the middle of the school year that her role with these kids would end. She left this work to us until Allah calls our souls as well.

Please each of us can help. If you don’t have money, a kind word, and if you have money, please give generously. This is the month of blessings. Your wealth is multiplied through supporting Al-Madinah School’s children. Al-Madinah School needs your help as soon as possible. We seek those more fortunate in wealth to give us a helping hand. Please be of the people who will help provide Islamic education to a least one child.

This is a call for all Muslims to give a bright future, an Islamic future for these children. Let us all remember that someone was the reason you were educated. These kids may one day carry this message of khair to others, and due to your effort and concern.

I ask that Allah shower us with His Blessings and strengthen us in the month with our ibaadah and our good deeds. Allahuma Ameen!

      Thank you very much for your kind words and please know that;

The upper hand is the one that gives, and the lower hand is the one that takes’. Allah SWT said in the Holy Book, ‘The likeness of those who spend their money for Allah’s sake, is as the likeness of a grain (of corn), it grows seven ears, every single ear has a hundred grains, and Allah multiplies (increases the reward) for whom He wills, and Allah is All-Sufficient for His creatures needs, All Knower’ (2: 261). And He SWT said, ‘Whoever works righteousness, whether a male or a female, while he (or she) is a true believer, verily to him We will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and We shall pay them certainly a reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do.’ (16: 97)

hey Assalamu alaikum everyone.. ramadan mubarak! i was a student at almadinah from kindergarten – 9th grade. the supreme, explicit teaching and mentoring that my teachers gave me helped guide me through my long university years. alhamdulillah i graduated in the summer of 08. i often stop by al madinah to see how things are going. it would hurt my heart to see that school close down because of financial problems.

      Assalamu Alaikum,

Please donate especially to the schools. It will help you and the needy children who need an Islamic education. Allah swt says that the one who spends his money in His way is like a seed of corn that produces 7 ears and every ear has 100 seeds. Capitalize on this time!!! Wa salam

Please donate especially to the schools. This is the month to capitalize on enormous reward. May Allah bless you all. Ameen

    • Shafeeq

      As-salaamu-alaikum wa Ramadhan Kareem,

I would like to say that Al-Madinah School is a blessing from Allah (swt). It is the best Islamic School in Los Angeles and is in great need of charity. Many Muslim children have graduated from this school in the past 20 years. My son is 10 years old, and is a great student at Al-Madinah school. He can read, write and recite Arabic and Al-Qur’an. It is the best school to give your child an Islamic education. The teachers are Muslims, and the curriculum is based on Islamic based courses. Muslims teaching and learning together according to the tenets of Islam is a huge blessing in the land of khufr. The children have the Islamic personality. I always donate all that I can.

      Salaams

      Assalamu alaikum,

Parents and students of Al-Madinah School, thank you very much for your pleasant words of encouragement.

Muslim and An-Nasai recorded this Hadith, and Muslim’s narration reads, “ A man brought a camel with its bridle on and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah! This is in the sake of Allah.’ The Messenger said, “You will earn seven hundred camels as a reward for it on the Day of Resurrection.”

Allah multiplies rewards for those who spend in His cause, seeking His pleasure.
“By no means shall you attain Al-Birr, unless you spend of that which you love.” (4:92)

As salaamu alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu. May this message reach you in the best of Iman. Masha’Allah Almaunfund.org came in my life when I and my sister in Islam needed some assistance back in 2004 I believe we lived in Sioux Falls,South Dakota. We needed help and they where there for us. Througout the years I have known other sisters that needed assistance and they have gotten helped as well. I presently operate and own the Shelter in Baltimore
Women Affairs of Al-Mumtahinah Home Inc., and each and everytime a sister comes to our door for assistance one of the application process on the list is to apply at Almaunfund.org because from experience in the past they have helped everyone that we send to them Insha’Allah and I truly believe with the help of Allah subhaana wa ta’Allah and you giving the small kindness donations they would not be successful to help those who are in need it would have been a struggle so give what ever you can insha’Allah every bit counts.

      Salaam wa nur

As salaamu alaykum wa Rahmat Allah wa Barakatuh.

“Allah will deprive usury of all blessing, but will give increase for deeds of charity: for He loves not creatures ungrateful and sinner.” (Qur‘an, 2: 276)

“That which you give in usury for increase through the property of (other) people, will have no increase with Allah: but that which you give for charity, seeking the Countenance of Allah, (will increase); it is those who will get a recompense multiplied.” (Qur‘an, 30:39)

Abu Hurairah (r.a.) reported Allah’s Messenger (s.a.w.s.) as saying: “Charity does not in any way decrease the wealth and the servant who forgives, Allah adds to his respect; and the one who shows humility, Allah elevates him in the estimation (of the people).” (Muslim Vol. 4, Hadith 6264)

May your ranks be elevated for your good works and may you find the ultimate success in this life and the next – ameen!

Al Maun Fund is a an organization where the staff take out the time to talk to the people they are helping to fully understand the situation and give them sincere advice about things and even though they may not have enough funds to help with the large request they seek out to do whatever they can.

May Allaah allow Al Maun Fund to continue to help others and May He reward them bountifully. Aameen

I attended Al Madinah school from kindergarten to 8th grade. Masha Allah the dedicated teachers in this school taught me my religion, how to speak , read, and write arabic as well as the secular subjects. These teachers taught as volunteers. It is only now that I am an adult that I realize how great their sacrifice was and still is. Please help keep this wonderful school open. It is an oasis for muslim children in the inner city. It’s a simple idea, but hopefully it will be really successful one day and help solve people’s issues.

Type of people who you can help Inshallah(these kinda people have given in their stories, and by commenting we can help them)
      depressed,suicidal,raped,abused,self hamers,self abusers/cutters,people with mental illnesses.

An e.g. of how we help there:

One girl gave in her story of how shes a self hamer, she used to injure her body because of how tough her life was. So i put up her ‘life story’ and people started commenting. They gave tips and stuff to help, online support. She wrote back in another comment saying like thanks to all the help and stuff she hadnt cut for about a week mashallah.

Al-Ma’un Fund has helped so many Muslims over the years and as a supporter of al-Ma’un Fund I can vouch for their dedication to helping the Ummah, maashaa’Allaah. From clothing to rent to bills and other basic necessities, there are so many other ‘small kindnesses’ that al-Ma’un Fund would be able to fulfill if they had more funds. May Allaah reward the organizers greatly for their dedication and patience and continue to allow the organization to be successful, aameen.

My name is Amina Starkey and in Feb. 2008 I and my two sons became homeless and were clients at Women Affairs of Al-Mumtahinah Home for women and children. While there I became the house manager. I stayed for one year. While I was in the shelter I received help from the donations that were sent to the shelter, such as pampers, bus fare to get to my appointments, toiletries, even food from the halal emergency food bank that the shelter has, islamic clothes that the shelter provides as well and they all came from donations, furniture such as a bed for myself, a toddler bed and a play pen for my sons that I still use to this day. Women Affairs helped me to become independent and hepled me to establish my islamic ettiquetes through the islamic classes we have once a week. In Feb. 2009 Allah blessed me with my own home in public housing. Women Affairs helped me to furnish my home with various items that I needed and they all came from donations.Even though I don’t stay at the shelter anymore I am still the house manager. I have known Sis.Nadia since Aug.2005 when I took my shahaadah. What Sis. Nadia is doing for women and children is a blessing from Allah subhana wa ta’ala. May he reward her now and in the hereafter ameen. Your donations are needed financially and many non financial needs as well and what the shelter doesn’t use it goes to the people of need in the community muslim and non-muslim. May Allah reward all those who donate. May he reward them now and in the hereafter.

During Ramadhaan, the believers compete in doing acts of obedience and spending in the cause of Allaah. During this month, righteous deeds are doubled, mistakes are remitted, ranks of men are raised and supplications are answered by Allaah. It is the month of benevolence and blessings

Allaah also Says (what means): “…And do good; indeed, Allaah loves the doers of good.” [Quran 2: 195]

The Al Maun Fund has been an outlet of help for the many Muslims in need of sadaqah, al hamdulillah. These past few years we have been trying to get the word out there to 2 types of people: The 1st are those who have never heard about us & may need assistance and the 2nd being those that are able to give their wealth by making ongoing donations fisibilillah. Please keep Al Maun Fund in mind by encouraging these people mentioned so that we can continue to be that outlet & a success in helping & attaining the means to offer this help. What better month than Ramadan, the month full of reward, mercy & good deeds multiplied inshaaAllah. Visit our site @ http://www.almaunfund.org to make a donation, become one of our sponsors, or to read the many heartfelt thanks of those families who could not be more grateful for helping them survive during the hardest of times on our “notes of thanks” page. I just wanted to remind myself and you all of the importance of raising Muslim children upon the correct tarbiyah. Al Madinah School has been running for the past 30 years or so. And I know a lot of brothers who benefited from this school and today, many of our children are still attending this school. So whatever we can do to support the school with our du’aa and our money then please let’s do so.

My pleasant word for today is a short recollection of one of my many fond memories of Al-Madinah school. I remember when I was about 8 years old in first or second grade, every morning they would play Quraan on the loudspeaker as we stood in line waiting to enter our classrooms. The recitation was by Sheikh Mahmud Khaleel Al-Husary. His voice had such a calming effect that to this day, whenever I hear his recitation being played, it takes me way back to those mornings at Al-Madinah school. Even on a hot day, if I hear his recitation, I almost shiver as my mind and body travel back 20 years to those brisk mornings, standing in line, listening to his beautiful recitation.

    • Kadijah (Valerie Goodloe)

Al Madina School has been an inspiration for me. As a parent, raising two Muslim Girls in Los Angeles, Al Madina provided me with the community that helped me through some hard times. It was a blessing to know that my girls were getting the best education in an environment that provided safety, direction, values, faith reinforcement, and love!

I have a bond with the School staff because they went beyond what some schools staff do, and made sure that they shared personal things with me to help my girls as they developed. Al madina School is not only good for Muslims, Al Madina is good for this society, by fostering productive intelligent young people.

I have had my own experience with almaun fund. I was in the dead of winter at its coldest. My gas had been shut off. There was a plea to assist me with taking care of this matter especially since I had a 4 year old in the house.

It was by the mercy of Allah that they were able to assist me. Their donations along with others permitted me to get my heat restored and to continue to provide a safe and warm environment for my family.

The Maun fund has never turned anyone away. They have proven in my opinion to be a beautiful asset in the community by giving sadaqa for the sake of Allah azza wa jal. Everyone is given priority and duas along with whatever finances they can raise.

May Allah grant them Al-Firdouse for their work and accept from them their Ibaadah. May He make it easy for them on Yawma Qiyaama as they have made it easy for many, Ameen.

And with Allah is the facilitation to do what is right. May peace and blessing be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and his companions.

Once upon the time.. there was a king who has 4 wives.
He was very wealthy and respective.

The king loved the 4th very much. He felt like he can’t live without her. He was ready to do anything to please her.

The 3rd one loved him but he continued feeling that she can leave him one day and get married to another man.

The 2nd one was his refuge in case of troubles. She listened to him and helped him.

But the 1st one…. God! She loved him strongly while he doesn’t like her. He doesn’t feed her even or ask about her. She is sick and weak.
      _____________________________________________

After many years, the king became a very old man and felt that his day was soon.

He feared the grave. He feared being alone in the darkness of the grave under the ground.

At that moment he thought of his 4 wives. He loved them,, fed them and did a lot for them…

Would one of them join him to the grave and be good company to him in the darkness and loneliness???

He gently called the 4th one and said: My darling! Honey..
I loved you so much. I did everything to please you. Now would you please go with me to the grave?? I don’t want to stay alone..
She got mad and shouted at him.. NO .. NOT AT ALL.
Then she left immediately without any further discussion.

He called the 3rd one and said: I loved you all my life.. Will you go with me to the grave? She said NO. and when you die, I will get married to another man soon after your death.

Then he thought of the 2nd one. His refuge in troubles. She loved him and listened to him a lot. He asked her: I know you like me and I do. Will you please join me to the grave? I am scared of the darkness. She said: I am sorry honey.. but I can’t!!! I can only be with you till you reach your grave. Then I must leave.

At that time the king felt really sad and cried…
When suddenly a weak voice got into his ears.. Who was that?
He asked. The very weak voice replied: It is me your 1st wife.
I will go with you. He looked at her weak body and shaky hands. He regretted because he didn’t like her or take care of her. She is the only one who can join him…

      Now focus oh .. Muslim

      This King is YOU:
4th wife: your body. How long you take care of your body desires. Your body will leave you when you die.

3rd wife: your money and positions. They will go to another people when you die.

2nd wife: Your friends. They like you but they can’t go with you to your grave. They can only take you to it.

1st wife: your good deeds in this life. You ignore them but they are the only things that will join you in grave…

Baabun Nasr, what can I say. Only the best of words. UmmLayla is masha’allah such an upstanding person, May Allaah preserve her, ameen. She and her staff work dilgently to provide basic needs for the muslims in the Philadelphia metro area and beyond barakallahu feekum.

They have always come through when referalls have had to be made, and often go beyond what is requested.

Part of operating charitable organizations is cooperation between them, and Baabun Nasr has always offered a cooperative hand.

May Allaah bless their efforts and grant them from His rizq the means to continue this good work, ameen

We believe it is important to share that many of the people who come to us for their small needs may have difficulty getting assistance from other agencies due to the type of requests. Not because the need is not valid, just because an organization does not address these type of concerns.

cr.799 Family of (4), expecting twins. Needs double stroller, and clothing items, bedding etc for newborns. Girl age 6 size L-XL or 12-14,shoes in size 3.5, boy age 3, size 4T,shoes in sizes 8.5-9 insha’allah

Also, all requests are fully verified. This is to assure that the donations we receive (which is an amanah) are dispersed in the best manner.

Allah The Most High said what means in Surah Al Baqaarah ayah # 274

” Those who spend their wealth ( In Allah’s Cause) by night and day, in secret and in public, they shall have their reward with their Lord, On them shell be no fear, nor shall they grieve. ”

Shaykh Ibn Kathir (ra) recorded in his Tafsir about this ayah:

The Two Sahihs recorded that the Messenger of Allah said to Sa`d bin Abi Waqqas:

      «وَإِنَّكَ لَنْ تُنْفِقَ نَفَقَةً تَبْتَغِي بِهَا وَجْهَ اللهِ إِلَّا ازْدَدْتَ بِهَا دَرَجَةً وَرِفْعَةً، حَتَّى مَا تَجْعَلُ فِي فِي امْرَأَتِك»

(You will not spend charity with which you seek Allah’s Face, but you will ascend a higher degree and status because of it, including what you put in your wife’s mouth.)

      Brothers and Sisters,

Al-Madianh School is a full-time private Islamic school serving children in grades K – 9, and operating in Los Angeles since 1979. Our present struggles is to assist those families who are financially unable to pay tuition fees. We are desperately doing our best to keep as many children as possible enrolled. One very kind Sister has pledged to fund one child’s monthly tuition payment ($250 monthly). It is indeed through this type of support that will enable us to continue our efforts (Allah-Willing).

While each community has different objectives, programs and events, it has been Infocus Newspaper that opened a window through which the entire community could view what are the happenings in fellow Islamic Centers, schools, and organizations. We do not want to see Infocus discontinue its publication. Please, everyone, just give a little…and we will see big progress.

      A reminder to the believers:

“And spend something (in charity) out of the substance which We have bestowed on you, before death should come to any of you and he should say, O my Lord! Why did You not give me respite for a little while? I should then have given (largely) in charity, and I should have been one of the doers of good? But to no soul will Allah grant respite when the time appointed (for it) has come; and Allah is well-acquainted with (all) that yoy do.” (Qur’an 63:11).

The Muslim, who gives out Zakat, affirms the truth that nothing is dearer to him in life than the love of Allah and that he is fully prepared to sacrifice everything for Allah’s sake.

There is no burden of obligation on one who receives Zakat, and there must be a sense of thankfulness and gratitude on the part of the giver, since he has been enabled by the recipient to discharge his obligation that he owes to Allah and society.

Zakat is the wealth given in the way of Allah to obtain purity of heart and to obtain the blessings of Allah. The root of the word Zakat in Arabic has two meanings:”purity” and “growth.”

“Take alms from their wealth (O Prophet!) in order to purify them with it.” (Qur’an 9:103)

Zakat also pleases Allah and strengthens one’s soul: “And the likeness of those who spend their wealth in search of Allah’s pleasure, and for the strengthening of their souls, is as the likeness of a garden on a height. The rainstorm smites it and it brings forth its fruit twofold. And if the rainstorm smite it not, then the shower. Allah is Seer of what you do.” (Qur’an 2:265)

Allah-u-Akbar! A kind letter from one of our previous students. She writes:

Assalamu alaikum Brother Eric, I am so excited to announce that this semester I graduated from San Francisco State University with my Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, and was hired by the American Cancer Society. I am writing because I recently was asked during a graduation ceremony who I would like to thank I first thought Allah of course, also I said my parents. Additionally, Al-Madinah School also came to mind as the stepping stone that Al-humduillah prepared me for so much. I received not only a wonderful education, but Islamic Studies training that is always useful and essential in this world. I would just like to say that I am very thankful to Allah for blessing my parents for placing me in Al-Madinah School. I want to thank you and all o the Al-Madinah School staff then and now for doing a wonderful job for all of the pupils who attended Al-Madinah School. May Allah bless you all in this life and the next.

P.S. I heard about the fundraiser, my donation is enclosed. Also insha’Allah I hope if need be I can do more, as the school and community have done for me.
      Habibah

May Allah reward Habibah for her kind words. I must say all the comments about Al-Madinah school are quite impressive. It is quite apparent that the school has had a monumental impact on its students, both current and those who have graduated as noted by several posters.

It is wonderful to see an established school like this. My only hope is that we can see more of the same in other communities as their is a dire need for them. Insha’allah that they can follow the exemplary example of Al-Madinah school produce educated youth, who are sound in deen and who benefit the society as a whole.

      as-salaamu alaikum,

Al-hamdulillaah, Baabun Nasr has been such a breath of fresh air for the Muslims and non-Muslims in the Philadelphia and surrounding areas. SubhanaAllah when you’re in need they always seem to be available to take your call. No requests is denied and they do everything within their capabilities to help the Muslims and Non-Muslims in the tri-state area.

I’ve witnessed the appreciation the non-Muslims have for Baabun Nasr, to the extent that several people actually took their shahadah (Allahu Akbar!). The Dawah that they display by just being pious/humble Muslims attract the non-Muslims greatly. This organization has really uplifted the community in more ways than one. I continually pray to Allah that He blesses this organization with much good and allow it to run smoothly so that generations to come (inshaAllah) will be able to witness what I’ve witnessed, benefit from what I’ve benefited from Baabun Nasr!

my mom(nadia auxila mcintosh/the owner of Women Affairs of Al-mumtahinah Home Inc., and founder) has been very helpful in the community. she has worked with many different sisters and is learning more everyday. most sisters who live(d) in the shelter are acomplishing and/or have accomplished their goals with the help of my mother with her services. it makes me happy to see her help others . and the people who she helps are happy too.

    • abdul haqq

I know of quite of few people that were helped by women affairs of almumtahinah home inc. The sisters that were helped were homeless and had no placed to turn to, upon finding out about the shelter they were relieved to have placed to stay, they also were helped to find resources to get a job and other assistance, some of the sisters were able to get established with housing of their own.

Hello my name is Raychalle Jones and I have a four month old son named Andre Shields. I have just recently moved in the shelter
(Women Affairs of Al-Mumtahinah Home Inc.,) at the beginning of August of this year. The reason why I came to the shelter was because I needed to stay on top of my deen which it was hard for me to do while I was living with my father which he was against it. As of now the shelter and Sis.Nadia are helping me in many ways. The shelter gets many donations which helps me gets the things I need such as pampers, clothes, toiletries and also a crib for my son. Right now I am working on accomplishing my goals which is to get my I.D and my G.E.D in order for me to attend a college later on this year to study on being an x-ray technician. Please donate to the shelter (Women Affairs of Al-Mumtahinah Home Inc.,) because it would be a great help not only for muslims but the community and the people who really needs it As salaamu alaikum.

As salamu alaikum, Ramadan Mubarak! I am a 34 yr old muslimah I was faced with a lot of trials and I was trying to stay focused on my deen and my family was against me because of my religion. I heard about Women Affairs of Al-Mumtahinah Home Inc. shelter for homeless women and children. I needed to be in an Islamic environment and contacted sister Nadia and she took me in. When I came there sister Nadia and the sisters that live there helped me and supported me with my religion, a place to stay and the emotional disstress that I was experiencing.
Since I have been here I have established peace and tranquility within my self they have helped me with resources with employment they have helped me established my relationship with my children and overall helped me to bring my self esteem back up they have helped me with clothing, food, islamic literature etc.. Insha’Allah you will continue supporting this important cause.

May Allah subhaanah wa ta Allah support you on all of your efforts. Ameen

      Ramadan Mubarak!

We are so humbled to be listed again on this web site. We want to thank everyone from last year. We have been able to help more people by opening an outreach office. Your generous donations from last year and a small grant from Verizon Wireless help make this possible.

Our goal is to become more financially independent so we do not have to rely on individual donations so much. Our recycling project is growing and if we have van/truck we can go to large businesses and collect dozen of boxe of recycable items. We also can pick up larger donations of donated food from organizations and Food Banks. We use all money donated as Zakat for direct aid to those who come to us.

If you want to give Zakat fine just let us know so we will do what is proper and correct with the donation.

      Assalamu alaikum,

Below is a very nice article which appeared in a Tallahassee newspaper, that reminds us of the importance of sharing and giving to those less fortunate:

Tallahassee woman fulfills obligation of zakat during Ramadan

      By Sharon Kant-Rauch
      editor

Batulu Kofar-Naisacq knows that it’s hard enough to fast from sunup to sundown during the Islamic month of Ramadan, which this year starts on Saturday.

But what if you didn’t have anything to eat once it got dark?

Last year that haunting question led her to contact her sister in Nigeria, where Batulu grew up, and brainstorm a way to feed the child beggars that would come knocking at doors in her sister’s Kano neighborhood as soon as the sun went down.

She sent her sister enough money to feed 30 children beans and rice mixed with a little oil and salt every night of Ramadan. Her sister’s housekeeper made the food and her sister distributed it to the kids. The children responded immediately, lining up their bowls outside her sister’s house well before sundown.

This year, with the help of a couple of other Tallahassee Muslim families, she’s doing it again.

“I know there’s a lot more kids who need it,” Batulu said, “but at least I know these 30 kids are happy.”

Batulu is also fulfilling one of the five pillars of Islam called zakat, meaning charity or almsgiving. It is often given during Ramadan.

As-salamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu.

I would like to share my experience with the people about Baabun Nasr, (bi’ithnillaah). I saw how Allaahu ta’alaa showered His blessing’s on this organization from the beginning (mashaa Allaah). So many people have benefitted from this program subhanallaah it brings tear’s to my eyes, and yet I cant help but to believe that my family and I have benefitted from this program more than anyone else, and Allaahu ta’alaa know’s best. I can still remember how the beleiving women of our community would arrive at Baabun Nasr’s open house every 3rd. Sunday of each month “IN CROWDS” showing their love and support towards that which is good & that which has established a level of sisterhood mashaa Allaahu ta’alaa. May Allahu ta’alaa “CONTINUE” to send His blessings upon the believing women of our community and allow them to be better slave’s, mother’s, sister’s and wive’s Ameeeeen!!! I am truly greatful for the family Allaahu ta’alaa has placed in my care in this dunyaa and I am hoping to be with them in Jennah, Allahumma Ameeen!! May Allahu ta’alaa protect us from the evil of ourselves and others and may He raise this program to a level that He is pleased with, Allaumma Ameeen!!!!!

I pray Allah helps Al-Madinah School and gives them all of the financial support they are currently seeking inshallah. A muslim school for minors serves as the backbone of a great generation of people, and inshallah it can continue to do this great deal of service to the muslim community.

    • abookhaalid

      Assalaamu `alaykum and Ramadhaan Mubaarak!

Congratulations to all who’ve responded to Allaah’s call by participating in this effort and assisting Al-Madinah School. Know that regardless of the amount, it’s b-i-g. And remember, dua’a is a Muslim’s greatest weapon against any and all adversity… so ask Allaah to grant Al-Madinah School with growth and continued success.

Three of my children were blessed with the benefit of attending Al-Madinah School during the late 80′s early 90′s… one is even “passing the love” she received from Al-Madinah as a degreed and certified teacher of 4th-graders in Cleveland’s Islamic school. As all parents expect from any school, I found quality in “the three-R’s”; and, as any parent expects when choosing an Islamic school, I found safety, good conduct and care… but the unexpected is what was to become so meaningful to me… the sincere commitment of Al-Madinah School to cultivate each student as prescribed… towards the Pleasure of Allaah and His Paradise.

Thanks to all who support Al-Madinah School. Our greatest reward is with Allaah.

assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

May Allah help us in performing and completing this blessed Ramadhan 1430/2009 in a way that will please Him and will bring us closer to him and then to each other, ameen. I became a staunt supporter of Al-Muntahinah women shelter home the minute I found out about it. It may have have been the humble demeanor of sister Nadia when she approached us not for financial help, but for du’as, networking and our time and intellectual resources. I really did like that approach, because she did not make us feel guilty or pressured, rather, she gave us a golden opportunity to use Allah’s gifts to us to help others. On a more personal note, I became involved also because I had been the recipient of such help, about 10 years ago. I had about to start college when I found out I did not have any housing ( I had applied at the very last minute, so lucked out on freshman housing). By the grace of Allah, I was able to get a bed in a Christian shelter in a neighboring town, about 15 miles from my university. The experience was truly life changing. The stories I heard from some of the ladies were heartwrenching, but there were a few who were there because of drug dependency or mental health (which is still a very legitimate reason to be there). I was also really touched and impressed by the dedication of the workers there. I would say I did have a pleasant stay there, the shelter was well equiped and very comfortable, and I was very well treated by the staff.
We do not realize how blessed we are until Allah test us with some hardship. We do not also realize how much of an impact our gifts can have in others’lives, until we are the recipients of such gifts. It does not take much to run a shelter, but it does take something. I would strongly encourage all to donate their time, talents and money to Al-Muntahinah, and to any other muslim women shelter in their area. If there is not any, think about starting one, because the need is definitely there. May Allah make it easy for us in this life and in the hereafter, and may He shower us with his mercy, compassion, blessings, protection and guidance in this life and in the hereafter, ameen.

      Carine.

    • Al-Madinah School

      Assalamu alaikum,

Barakallahu Feek to Abookhalid in Ohio, who gave Al-Madinah School kind words, (which we know to be sadaqah) and $100 sadaqah Lillah! Allah bless you! And as a reminder to us all….

Abu Malik al-Ashari (r.a.) (radhi Allahu anhu) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (s.a.w.s.) said: “Cleanliness is half of faith. Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah) fills the scale. SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah) and Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah) fill up what is between the heavens and the earth. Prayer is a light. Sadaqah is proof (of one’s faith). Endurance is a brightness and the Qur‘an is a proof on your behalf or against you. All men go out early in the morning and sell themselves, thereby setting themselves free or destroying themselves.” (Muslim, 432)

The more we give sadaqah the more we increase our eeman and thus, expect Allah’s rewards both in this world and in the life hereafter. Giving sadaqah out of our wealth does not decrease our wealth but instead Allah (s.w.t.) increases it:

“Allah will deprive usury of all blessing, but will give increase for deeds of charity: for He loves not creatures ungrateful and sinner.” (Qur‘an, 2: 276)

      Thank you very much Abookhalid!

Due to the fact we have such a large community of Muslims we also have a large poverty rate. Homelessness, Unemployment and Single parents, Muslim orphans, Unkept elderly and sick. Our Computer Lab will allow the sisters to come to a comfortable environment to apply for jobs, resume write, apply for affordable housing, and much more, we will also have a sister teach a small computer class. The goal is to help provide self sufficiency.
Today we had a open house. The Open House is when we put out clothing, shoe, house supplies and much more for the community for free.Muslims came in crowds some came with there non Muslim family. To receive the blessings of Allah, from the young to the old. Our fellow non Muslim neighbors were so happy to get some items for there children for school. They were asking questions about Islam, very surprised that the Muslim are not what they read about or see on T.V.
We are so grateful to Allah ta ala for allowing us to provide the services to our brothers and sisters, and we pray that our deeds are accepted by Allah.

      Your donation is greatly needed.

By helping to provide an education for the children of Al- Madinah School you are not only helping to educate the next generation but their children as well and so on. Countless students from Al- Madinah have been equipped with the islamic and secular knowledge to teach their own children . A few dollars can go a long way…………

      Description of program and activities:

Women Affairs of Al-Mumtahinah Home Inc. is a nonprofit corporation organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes. Specifically, this organization has been formed to provide relief to the poor, distressed and under privileged women and children of our community.

We further our purposes under this program by operating a bi-weekly Halal emergency food pantry and providing short term, emergency shelter to homeless or abandoned women and their children.

We operate a three bedroom home with the ability to house 6 families at any given time. Our organization is not a housing provider, but rather a helping hand in times of need. Participants in our emergency housing program will receive food supplies thorough our food pantry as well.

In appropriate cases, our organization will also provide counseling, referral and support services to those in need. There is no fee associated with any aspect of this program.

We will administer this program through advertisement, donations and internet, and word of mouth.

We believe that the successful execution of this program directly furthers our purpose of providing relief to poor, distress and underprivileged women and children of our community.

Your Duaa’s and contributions are greatly appreciated. May Allah reward you all with all the good of this life and the hereafter. Ameen

I want to begin with saying thank you to sister Nadia
(Women Affairs of AL-Mumtahinah Home Inc.,) for being there and available to me. I came here on my own just from seeing the sign Safe haven for women and women with children.

Before comming here I had lost my son at the end of April 2009 as I had a problem drinking and was staying in a house that had been condemmed and my baby was taken from me.

I came here in the middle of May and began to do whatever is necessary to get my life together and get my son back. I went to treatment seven days a week attended and parenting class for 12 weeks and also went to outside self help meetings to ensure my sobriety I recieved two certificates from the treatment facility.

I was able to visit my son once a week and the social services had come to Women Affairs to ensure the home was a safe place for my son. On August 10th,2009 we went to court and was awarded back custody of my son. I go every two weeks to court for the court to evaluate my progress.

I am still residing at women affairs of Al-Mumtahinah Home Inc. now with the help of women affairs they are helping me with childcare so I can attend computer literacy classes beginning Tuesday September 1st, 2009.

at the women affairs I have been provided shelter for a period of six months to a year. I am striving to learn some skills to help me obtain employment and long term living arrangements for us.

I have been also provided with donations since being here (highchair, stroller, Crib) I am ever greatful for all the help mainly for the shelter itself and providing me a place to live with my child safely. Please send in your donations for this cause.
I am ever greatful for sister nadia and all through the grace of God. AlhamdulliAllah!!

      Assalamu alaikum,
Good News! $1,000 Deposited With Allah: From Abu Amir, Kansas City MO. May Allah bless you Abu Amir and we thank you! Such generosity is that of our Prophet’s close companions:

Abdur-Rahman Ibn Awf was amongst the most generous people at the time of the Prophet (pbuh). He continued giving with both his hands, secretly and openly until he died. Some of the figures mentioned are truly astounding: forty thousand dirhams of silver, forty thousand dinars of gold, two hundred awqiyyah of gold, five hundred horses to mujahidin setting out in the path of God and one thousand five hundred camels to another group of mujahidin, four hundred dinars of gold to the survivors of Badr and a large legacy to the Ummahaat al Muminin and the catalogue goes on. On account of this fabulous generosity, ‘A’ishah said…

“May Allah give him to drink from the water of Salsabil (a spring in Paradise).” All this wealth did not corrupt Abdur-Rahman and did not change him. When he was among his workers and assistants, people could not distinguish him from them. One day food was brought to him with which to end a fast.
He looked at the food and said: “Musa’ab ibn Umayr has been killed. He was better than me. We did not find anything of his to shroud him with except what covered his head but left his legs uncovered. Then Allah endowed us with the (bounties of) the world… I really fear that our reward has been bestowed on us early (in this world).” He began to cry and sob and could not eat.

I am very impressed with the way this organization is run. I have personally seen how she treats the sisters in her shelter with the utmost respect, care, and dignity. I came to Sister Nadia (Women’s Affairs of Almumtahniah Home) after being in another Muslim shelter in Baltimore where this was not practiced. This sister has been nothing short of gracious, giving, and a real asset to helping me and my 2 little children in this city. I have known this sister for all of 2 weeks and she has provided me with furniture and resources to make this transition much easier. I thank Allah(swt) for opening her heart to a complete stranger and, insha’Allah, she is rewarded greatly for her generosity.

As a founder and past managing editor of InFocus News, I am so excited to see the progress the newspaper has made in the last 4 years. As Muslims, we always talk about the media and how we are unfairly portrayed. InFocus News has given us a chance to change that. Finally, we can tell our story in our own words. InFocus is sent every month free of charge to elected officials, leaders, interfaith professionals, who view it as a resource for news about and by Muslims. Further, our website attracts close to 200,000 hits every month! SubhanAllah, the opportunities for da’wah are endless. Make your commitment now and make a difference. May Allah accept from all.

Alhamdulillah I saw the sister (Umm Mohamed) last night and she is in high spirits despite her situation. A friend is hoping they can buy her a used car to replace the stolen one (that the insurance company AND the town is not doing much to help with!!). It would cost a little over $3,000 for the car so we really need the money to pay for it as not that many people around here have minivans that they’re willing to give away for free. Otherwise if we do, inshaAllah, come across one for free this $3,000+ will cover her fee for an apartment and have her set for a month only though.

My experience with Baabun Nasr has been such a beneficial memory. When I first learned about Baabun Nasr thru their website and contacted them concerning some help during a time where I was in much need by Allaah’s will they provided me with clothing, food and support at a time I didnt know anyone in the Philadelphia area. Their kindness, generosity, positive atitude and smiles benefited me in ways that can’t even be expressed in words. Their staff have been resourceful in linking me to jobs, organizations and information in the Philadelphia area. I have been so blessed to have met the staff at Baabun Nasr. When I was looking for an apartment Allaah has blessed me to live in the surrounding area of Baabun Nasr so I can still benefit from the positive and kind words of this beautiful non-profit organization.

    • Fatima

Baabun Nasr helped me and my son when I was homeless. They provided me with food, clothing, and information on resources in the philadelphia area. They helped me so much when I came from a different state. May Allah reward them for all their help and kind words. Their staff treated me so well I enjoy their company and apreciate their hard work.

Masha’allah Baabun Nasr’s programs are a big benefit to the community near and far. With the aid that this program gives it is only by Allah’s leave that the abundance of people who request it are able to get something out of it, even if it is a major dua, alhamdulillah!

May Allah continue to give Baabun Nasr the good of this life and allow them to fulfil the requests of the people. Ameen!

    • al-Madinah School

      Assalamu alaikum,

We are overwhelmed with happiness at the kindness and generosity our school has received these past two weeks. Gifts small and large on deposit with Allah. When I look at our Muslim children on the playground at school I thank Allah, Most High, and all of you for supporting Islamic education. I remind the students to take their studies serious because great effort and resources are on loan to them. It is an amanah – a big trust in the hand of us at Al-Madinah. We thank you for helping us and please as we approach the last ten days of Ramadan, make dua for us.

A reminder for us to save ourselves from the fire, even with a half date….

Just as Allaah has created people with different colors, attitudes and levels of knowledge, so too their deeds and provision vary. He has made some of them rich and some poor, to test the rich as to whether they show gratitude, and to test the poor as to whether they are patient. Because the believers are a brotherhood, and brotherhood is based on compassion, kindness, love and mercy, Allaah has enjoined upon the Muslims zakaah which is taken from the rich and given to the poor. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Take Sadaqah (alms) from their wealth in order to purify them and sanctify them with it, and invoke Allaah for them. Verily, your invocations are a source of security for them”[al-Tawbah 9:103]

Zakaah purifies and cleanses wealth, and purifies the soul from stinginess and miserliness. It strengthens the love between the rich and poor, takes away hatred, makes security prevail and brings happiness to the ummah. Allaah has made the payment of zakaah obligatory upon everyone who owns the nisaab (minimum amount) for one year.

“And perform As-Salaah (Iqaamat-as-Salaah), and give Zakaah, and whatever of good (deeds that Allaah loves) you send forth for yourselves before you, you shall find it with Allaah. Certainly, Allaah is All-Seer of what you do”[al-Baqarah 2:110]

As salamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barkatu

      The Baabun Nasr experience:
Over the weekend Babaun Nasr was able to assist over a dozen muslims with their basic needs.

We had a sister from Iraq that barely spoke any english in need of clothes and food for her self and her son Baabun Nasr was able to meet her needs.

      Strory #1
Over the weekend Baabun Nasr recived a call from a sister asking for food assistance the sister began to explain that her family has 10 children ages ranging 2 -20 and one on the way, The husband is in between jobs and the do not receive and government aide. The family had no food for the small children and the pregnant mom for suhoor nor to breakfast. Then the sister went on to say how they have no electricty. they are borrowing from the house next door.So I asked the sister what else do you need? She replied we don’t have toothpaste, toilet tissue, soap and the small things we take advantage of. Masha Allah we were able to bring a van full of food that the community donated also we are going to purchase toilet trees for the family.

      Story#2
Yesterday Baabun Nasr was able to assist a family of 7 with food. When we arrived to the home with the food the children were so happy they were jumping up and down. The sister was so grateful for the favors of Allah.

      Story #3
A sister called us today, her and her 3 children was placed in a hotel after the radiator fell on the childs arm in there home and LNI shut the house down. The sister is in dire need of food and have not car fare to pick up the food. Babaun Nasr has arranged for a sister to pick up the food from our location.

Our community program have received situations like these weekly, and Through Allah’s permission and your donations we will continue to work hard to Aide our brothers and sisters. Insha Allah

Donate to Baabun Nasr your donations can help change many lives through the Mery of Allah.

The likeness of those who spend their wealth in the Way of Allaah, is as the likeness of a grain (of corn); it grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains. Allaah gives manifold increase to whom He pleases. And Allaah is All-Sufficient for His creatures’ needs, All-Knower. (Al-Baqarah 2:261)

The importance of a well established, dedicated school in our society can not be overemphasized; this is why I support Al Madinah School. Al Madinah has been an integral part of the development of the students who have passed through its doors.

      i wear the niqaab, I pray, I fast – fard and nawafil/sunnah.
my husband got tossed me around so his dad threw me out of the house, my husband took me to my moms house fearing that the scuffle between us would get worse, I woke up in the morning and he said “my dad said you can’t come back, all your things are packed”, I am a convert (2yrs), but they sent me back to the kuffar who abused me, which is why I call myself after the chapter in the Quran, almumtahinah, based on what they did to me.
