“Whosoever removes a world grief from a believer, Allaah will remove from him one of the griefs of the Day of Judgment” -Collected by Al-Bukhari and Muslim

Drive Deadline: July 1st, 2009

Drive Target:

According to this Hadith collected in Sahih Muslim, one cannot ask for Sadaqah unless he is in dire need and should ask to the extend that suffice him. So, we are only going to ask you to help pay off the loan of the needy doctor, whom we lent several months back and now, HalfDate needs to pay back the lender and we need a helping hand.

We have also asked a shaikh, and he said as for community service organizations and projects that needs collective efforts, it’s okay to ask for such projects in the West. However, HalfDate still feel uncomfortable to ask, may Allah help us to sustain such a project by our admins. If you want to share the rewards and volunteer or help out, that’s your call. May Allah help us all and accept from all of us.

  • Help HalfDate pay off the loan of the needy people in Canada and USA $3700

Summary: Over the last few months, you have noticed that HalfDate has slowed down in its growth, part of it was due to lack of full time staff (even that we have over 10 admins working tirelessly Alhamdulillah, but we still can’t meet the demand). Another reason that slowed us is the financial burden. This project is totally ran by private donors and we have lent some money to several worthy/needy people and they couldn’t pay back. So, if you think this palm tree deserves to survive and grow, please support us.

    As Salaamu Alaikum,

Since it cost so much to do individual drives how about combined drives. Putting needs that are alike together. Each person or organization in the drive commit to promoting the drive in their city and recruiting or promoting Half Date, insh’Allah.

How about only dua drives. That won’t cost any money. These days people are loosing jobs and are depressed. Some have ADD as well. So let us make dua for all of us including the 10 admins.

10 admins (I don’t understand why you need 10 admins). This site does not look complex at all. And anyway it is in wordpress, so virtually no programming.
Maybe the 10 admins are pulling the site in their own way. You may need some restructuring. Appoint 1 admin and get rid of all the obstructive admins.
More often than not, it is the ego that slows things down. It is the road blocks that are created by team members which slow down progress. With 10 admins we can start a software development company.

asasas-Aren’t admin jobs usually PAID positions? VOLUNTEER admins are NOT PAID, meaning they are either indepenantly wealthy or they have full-time paid jobs elsewhere and therefore the work they do here is on the side–on the side of their full-time jobs, their studies, their taking care of family and so-on. Let’s see. One PAID admin would prolly work like 40 hours a week. So here we have 10 VOLUNTEER admins who split the work and so maybe they each work around 4 hours a week–is that about how much VOLUNTEER work you do weekly? Do you spend 4 hours a week making dua for others in need? If not, shut up. Otherwise, please share your valuable management skills with all of us. Or go start up a non-profit software company.

As someone who runs a similar program like HalfDate I can assure you that to make it successful it takes A LOT of time. Its just like running a biz, you have to keep in contact and keep the members involved without crossing the line in to spamming. Making videos, editing those videos, involving them in twitter or facebook consumes a lot of time. None of which is paid but very rewarding. I LOVE helping my fellow Muslims out.

I also have a fb page dedicated to JUST du’a and it is difficult to get any of the members to participate. It seems they respond better (and faster) to money drives. Its a shame that people tear down good projects like these but don’t replace them with equal or better ones.

It is just like the shayateen to come in cause fitnah and leave before anyone is the wiser, bashing and staying anonymous seem to be their MO. This project not only inspired other people to get off their butts and start chasing hasanah (or start their own sadaqah projects) but most importantly helped those in need. Those non sexy projects that get forgotten because they are not sponsored by big names like ICNA or IslamicRelief. In the meantime our local communities have need but who is promoting them?

I suggest anyone who is against this project to propose a better one. Your criticism is useless unless you can provide an alternative.

In response to the person named “asasas”, I would like to inform you that I was in charge of the Healing Hearts Drive. It wasn’t easy, I spent many hours trying to encourage others to post uplifting comments, duaa and stories. I spent two weeks doing this and we still didn’t meet our (original) goal of 99 comments.

You’re oversimplifying our tasks as volunteers, perhaps because you have little to no experience in this area. I would encourage you to start up a similar project like Halfdate and see how ‘simple’ it is and whether you can run it yourself.

I don’t see why you mention of egos and ADD???? It is Allah that reads the hearts, but perhaps your ‘constructive criticism’ is really hiding something else. Allah Knows Best.

I leave you with the words of our beloved Prophet (Salalahu Alayhi wa Salam):

Abu Hurayrah (radhiallahu anhu) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa-sallam) said: “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him say what is righteous or keep silent. Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him be kind to his neighbor. And whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him be generous to his guest.” [Saheeh Muslim]

    As Salaamu Alaikum,

I can’t do one day wages due to I have a charity I manage and sometimes when we run short I put in the money to get some of the things done. I could try for half a day wages, insh’Allah. It will be a challenge however the rewards will be great. Since I am watching my weight more (losing unneeded pounds) I have more money to give in charity.

Asalamu Alaykum dear brothers and sisters,

I would like to say to all of you involved in halfdate and all other good things, May Allah reward you all for your efforts. You certaintly are much better than many Muslims out there including myself who are not active in doing good things. you are really doing something great and I ask Allah to give me the courage and ability to be able to do similar things you brothers and sisters are doing. May Allah bless you all.

I also have a question. I have clicked on the link for Imam shuaib’s orphans but it only takes me to the top of this page. Where do I need to go to help Inshaallah? Please get in contact with me InshaAllah and let me know how I can pay.

    Jazakumulaahu Kheyran!

    Wsalamu Alaykum Wr. Wb.
