Pursue of Grants Award: Women Affairs of Almumtahinah

HalfDate is starting a new initiative called: Award Drives. Basically, these are quick drives to recognize the service of organizations and individuals. The goal of the award is to encourage Muslim organizations to pursue excellence while thinking outside the box.

One of these award categories is: Pursue of Grants (trying to get money from grants)

Winner: Our third award drive is for Women Affairs of Almumtahinah.

Reason: They won a grant from Zakat Foundation.

Deadline: Nov 16, 2010 Second try to get the drive accomplished.

Target: $500

The funds raised were used for our Heating oil for one of the homes we operate (321 S.Pulaski Street). AlhamdulliAllah the sisters will have heat for a week or so.     Hi my name is NicoleCharles and i am living in this shelter with my kids,we came from Trinidad and Tobago.My mother send for us to live with her we got greencard and when we came she start to say we have to move out,because my older daughter is a muslim but me and my next two kids are not.On the 20th of may we arrive and the next month we were out in the street,sleeping in the park but thank to sister Nadia she took us in the shelter we have been living their.I have been looking for work with sister Nadias help and she help us by giveing us food and cloths because we have no winter cloths,so pleasegive to this shelter so we can get the help to thank you all for donateing to this shelter.

WHICH SEPERATED ME FROM ALL MY NORMAL AFFAIRS ON A DAY TO DAY BASIS SUCH AS BE ABSENT FROM COLLEGE REMOVE AND SEPERATE MYSELF FROM CERTAIN FAMILY MEMBERS WHICH WHERE TRULY NOT SUPPORTIVE DURING THIS TIME I FOUND MY WAY TO SEPERATE MYSELF TO COME BACK WEST BALTIMORE TO ASK FOR SUPPORT IN ISLAMIC COMMUNITY I FOUND TO BE MY COMFORT AT THIS TIME NOT ONLY HAS SIS NADIA ASSISTED ME WITH HOLDING ON TO THE ROPE OF ALLAH, SISTER NADIA HAS REVEALED TO ME THAT YOU DONT HAVE TO BE MUSLIM TO HAVE SOME TYPE OF CREATOR OR A BE IT A FIRM BELIEVER IN SOMEONE SOMETHING WHEN WE FALL SHORT OF SUPPORT OF HUMAN BEINGS WILL LET YOU DOWN WHOM DO YOU BELIEVE”?Where do you go ?when you dont trust absolutely no one nobodywell humduallah i seek first the refuge in allah (smile)and i found a trust in sis nadia and that is very hard tough for me at this tme !I look forward to just seeing her exsisteince each and every day iam very grateful for sis nadia and this shelter.

    this shelter is the result of hard work and sacrifice by sister nadia.
    her selfless ways show in how she reaches out to anyone in need regardless of race or creed. her work goes beyond sheltering the homeless. she also provides food to the hungry in the neighborhood on a regular basis.
    this work is not easy, and only a few people are cut out for such a task.
    giving her the donation is not helping her personally, but it is assisting her to keep a roof over these people’s heads, and light and heat as we all would want for ourselves and our families.
    give financial, material support, or give duas, but please GIVE!!! may Allah reward you and us all with the best. ameen
