First of all, date is the fruit, okay?
HalfDate is inspired by the teaching of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and prayer be upon him) where he called us to be part of the solution even if our contribution is as small as half a date, or a pleasant word.
اتقوا النار ولو بشق تمرة
“Save yourself from the (Hell) Fire even with half a date (to be given in charity). And if you do not find a half date, then with a good pleasant word.” - Collected by Al-Bukhari
Our goal is to utilize the means that Allah (swt) has given us (you + the Internet) to do something good for this life and the hereafter, in-sha-Allah.
Each Hijri month, you will suggest a specific cause (specific goal and due date) and HalfDate.com will feature it as a DateDrive. For example, through HalfDate, Muslims around the globe (from Trinidad to California) have:
- Donated over $5,127.54 for textbook
- Showed their care for convert Muslims
- Expressed their appreciations to halal businesses, and
- Donated to publish five teacher study guides for children books
As you can see, HalfDate is not only about monetary donation drives, because in Islam, the concept of Sadaqa (charity) is much broader than that.
Narrated by Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “To judge justly between two persons is regarded as Sadaqa, and to help a man concerning his riding animal by helping him to ride it or by lifting his luggage on to it, is also regarded as Sadaqa, and (saying) a good word is also Sadaqa, and every step taken on one’s way to offer the compulsory prayer (in the mosque) is also Sadaqa and to remove a harmful thing from the way is also Sadaqa.” -collected by Al-Bukhari
- Working together to get a specific task done even with our differences
- Reviving the broad concept of Sadaqa
- Putting the neglected (non-sizzling/boring) causes to the center stage
- Incorporating fun, creativity, and ingenuity into philanthropy
- Nourishing both the contributors and the beneficiaries
- Leading the research and development efforts of Islamic philanthropy
O ye who believe!
Enough day-dreaming, it’s time for Date Dreaming!
Let’s show Allah some real work. Help with your supplications, money, expertise, word of mouth and influence.
May Allah (swt) grant you the sweetest date in Jannah

NO, WE ARE NOT A CHARITY organization… ONE MORE TIME, WE ARE NOT. We promote Sadaqa in its broad concept ($$, a pleasant word, awareness, smile, dua, …). We promote worthy projects of other not-for-profit organizations, businesses, or individuals. (For businesses, the project has to be not-for-profit in nature)
NO, WE ARE NOT. We may register in the future, in-sha-Allah. However, we want to see how many Muslims would keep asking this question.
First of all, we are not a charity org
Secondly, it depends which XYZ you are talking about. But in general, we put fun in our style, we put innovation in our method, and every month you get a different dishe!
So you get the updates, we don’t post all updates on the site. Our promise is not to send more than seven messages in a Hijri month. So, can you handle seven emails in your inbox?
When you join, you save us a lot of time and money to find you or buy ads to get you.
We realize you get busy sometimes. So, do as much as you can. After all, it’s only once a month DateDrive. Simply post a comment once a month. Also, there is absolutely NO commitment to donate (only our forerunner donors club pledged to donate).
Ask someone to update you.
Average Abdullah (i.e. Joe)… who one day decided to stop day-dreaming and start DateDreaming.
If we both make it to the Jannah, in-sha-Allah, we’ll know each other.
But seriously, we’d rather remain anonymous, because we have our day jobs, as boring nerds or busy house wives. Alhamdulillah, the community knows us, and we have professional experience with non-profit and philanthropy.
Don’t trust us! [I don't trust myself
]
But, please don’t accuse us for anything we are not
The least Islamic right we get is the benefit of trust (or as others call it, “the benefit of doubt.”)
You are not giving us money… you are giving to the end beneficiaries. In each DateDrive, we list their information and details. So, do all your research until you feel comfortable, cool?
As mentioned above in the DateDream section, we prefer neglected projects that can engage a large number of Muslims. Also, the project has to be self-contained with a specific goal and achievable within one Hijri month (max 30 days).
Relying on Allah. Learning from the Quran and the Sunnah and acting upon them. After all, what kind of belief do we have if we trust Allah less than the birds? [check the bird trust hadith]
Because we have a club of donors: ourselves, friends, and families. We may open membership to this club once we streamline the operation.
May Allah cure your sickness and relief your tiredness. We were actually lost until you found us.
