Type of DateDrive: Half a date (financial)

Registered Non-Profit? No

“Whosoever removes a world grief from a believer, Allaah will remove from him one of the griefs of the Day of Judgment” -Collected by Al-Bukhari and Muslim

Details:

Drive Deadline: July 1st, 2009

Drive Target:

According to this Hadith collected in Sahih Muslim, one cannot ask for Sadaqah unless he is in dire need and should ask to the extend that suffice him. So, we are only going to ask you to help pay off the loan of the needy doctor, whom we lent several months back and now, HalfDate needs to pay back the lender and we need a helping hand.

We have also asked a shaikh, and he said as for community service organizations and projects that needs collective efforts, it’s okay to ask for such projects in the West. However, HalfDate still feel uncomfortable to ask, may Allah help us to sustain such a project by our admins. If you want to share the rewards and volunteer or help out, that’s your call. May Allah help us all and accept from all of us.

  • Help HalfDate pay off the loan of the needy people in Canada and USA $3700

Summary: Over the last few months, you have noticed that HalfDate has slowed down in its growth, part of it was due to lack of full time staff (even that we have over 10 admins working tirelessly Alhamdulillah, but we still can’t meet the demand). Another reason that slowed us is the financial burden. This project is totally ran by private donors and we have lent some money to several worthy/needy people and they couldn’t pay back. So, if you think this palm tree deserves to survive and grow, please support us.

Date Palms Drive

2009
02.10

Summary:
The goal of this drive is to train the Ummah to work more effectively.

عن ‏ابن عمر ‏عن النبي ‏صلى الله عليه وسلم‏ ‏قال‏: إن من الشجر لما بركته كبركة المسلم … هي النخلة . رواه البخاري

“There is a tree among the trees which is as blessed as a Muslim.” -collected by Al-Bukhari

HalfDate is 1-yr-old now, alhamdulillah.

It’s time to build our first DateFarm by cultivating HalfDaters to become DatePalms.

datefarm_by_cairocarol

It all started with one hadith of the prophet (salla Allahu ‘aalaihi wa sallam), one weekend, and one slice of pizza!

Soub-ha-na-Allah (Glory be to Allah), during the past 12 months Muslims from different walks of the Ummah have united to accomplish 13 dateDrives. Drives ranged from awareness campaign to fundraising ones, where HalfDaters like you have donated over $27,000.

So, to thank Allah for this success, we need to train more volunteers to fulfill more requests.

Therefore, it’s time to build our first DateFarm by cultivating HalfDaters like you to become DatePalms :)

DateDrive Goal:

  • Train at least 30 HalfDaters to become DatePalms (it’s a professional training with a fee, and when you volunteer for HalfDate later you get paid to offset the the training cost).

If you want to MAKE a difference, if you want to CHANGE the world with half a date or a pleasant word, join the training and become a DatePalm.

Who will give the training?

Brother Mohammed, UK. Specialty in productivity for teams and individuals

Mohammed is the founder of ProductiveMuslim.com, which explores productivity from an Islamic perspective. He looks into the Quran, the Seerah, and the history of the Islamic civilization for snippets and life hacks that would make our life more productive. He draws his experience from his four years at Bristol University working for Bristol ISOC (two years as General Secretary and one year as President), and his passion to read and follow all the latest in productivity. His recent travels to the Middle-East with a visionary and inspirational CEO has also added to his knowledge and expertise. Mohammed provides varied resources and advice on a broad range of topics including becoming an executive, team leadership skills, communication, and Islamic tips on management. He joined hands with FOSIS in 2008 to focus on training Islamic Societies across the UK in order to “help elevate their duties into a form of worship rather than simply an activity of a student society”.

Testimonials

“I invested about 2 hours of my time and made two international phone calls, and elhamdulillah it resulted in 17 THOUSAND US$!!! My special thanks goes to our own LivingHalal certified Halal coach.” -Mahdi, a project manager in Austria

After that it was plain sailing, it was client after client! Most importantly I achieved my goal and beyond! JazakAllah Khair BarakAllah feek!” -Khafayah, life coach in the UK.

More About Recycling/Fundraising

Your donation may be tax deductible. (ask your tax specialist).

Did you know that one cell phone can pollute up to 132,000 liters of drinking water. Your unwanted Cell phones and inkjet cartridges will be recycled in accordance with EPA regulations or Refurbished and reused.

Every time we throw electronic gadgets in the trash we hurt our environment. The casings do not biodegrade and the metals (lead, gold, lithium and others) eventually find their way into our ground water. Heavy metals in our rivers and creeks kill fish, plants and other forms of life causing an imbalance in nature. We can stop this from happening and support a worth cause at the same time.

This project is perfect for students and others who need to earn Community Service hours. It is also a good project for Girl/Boy Scout Troops, service organizations, masjid/Islamic centers and other places of worship. Each item donated is like cash to us. Please do not alter the shipping label. All the information is there for it to go directly where it needs to go and we (e.g. Baitul Salaam) get the credit for the shipment, insh’Allah.

If your employer has not contracted with someone to dispose of toner packs from copiers let us know right away, insh’Allah. We will contact them to show them how they can properly dispose of the toner packs.

How To Be A Collection Point?

As Salaamu Alaikum,

We recycle in Atlanta all the time.  Let’s keep it easy.  I am going
to lay out the steps for an easy recycling drive.

Step 1

Secure permission from the leadership in your community to collect
items listed:  old cell phones (can work as well as non-working),
empty ink jet cartridges and toner packs from copy machines, iPods,
mp3 players, game consoles, digital cameras, digital video recorders
and laptops. Get a large box and get some children to decorate it.
Give them some paper, scissors, bright color paper and let the have
fun.  Someone older can go over the box to make sure everything is
pasted on it is secure.

** Please use this flyer

Step 2

Check the box once or twice a week to make sure only electronic items
are going into he box.  When it fills, or close to filling or at the
end of the month (January 31) whatever happens first email
haleem1@aol.com (me) for simple directions on how to ship.  You will
receive postage paid labels from me to use (no cost to you).  Collect
some old boxes to ship (do not buy new ones).

Now if you are going to support both Al Maun and Baitul Salaam
organizations at the end of the drive check with Al Maun and see what
items they are collecting, insh’Allah.  Donate some or all of those
items to them.  We will take the balance, insh’Allah. Baitul Salaam is
collecting more items than Al Maun.

The main thing is to not over think it.  Keep it simple.  If you need
me to send you an annoncement that can be made to your community after
Salatul Jumuah, etc., will be glad to do so, insh’ Allah. Also if
people in your community need to talk to me directly fine they can
email me at haleem1@aol.com or call me at (404) 608-8649.

Thank you for wanting to assist.

May Allah continue to bless you.

ma salaam

You can earn the rewards of this hadith without having to do like this man!

Special Thanks

All praises and thanks are due to Allah, Alhamduillah. Having said that, we would like to follow the teaching of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and prayer be upon him) when he said, “Whoever did not thank the people, he did not thank Allah.”

So, on behalf of HalfDate family from New Zealand to Hawaii and from Alaska to Australia, we would like to thank all of you who participated as collection points, turned your unwanted eWaste into charity, chipped in for the expenses, posted pleasant words, spread out the words, created lesson plans to teach about recycling, uploaded pictures, involved your children or students, designed posters, created videos, or made Duas.

As always, we pray that Allah reward you all with the sweetest date in Jannah.

Drive Fruits:

  • 27 entities including Masjids, schools and businesses are joining the drive.
  • Over 107 students, teachers, parents, imams, business owners, and children are either recycling, learning about it, or teaching it.

This estimate does not include the free Facebook ad that was displayed over 24,000 times (thanks to br. Ahmed from Silicon Valley for free ads coupons).
    facebook-ads-for-recycling-drive

Email all your submissions by Feb 1st, 2009

As for shipping your items to AlMaun and Baitul Salaam, please email them (scroll down for their contact).

Al Maun is only collecting cell phones and empty ink jet cartridges. Baitul Salaam is collecting cell phones, empty ink jet cartridges, iPods, mp3 players, empty toner packs, laptops, digital cameras, digital video recorders and game consoles. Do an inventory of your collection: total number of each item. Decide how you want to split your collection. Then contact each group to receive further instructions. Warning: When you pack your items do not use air pillows, peanuts or other fancy packing materials just use newspaper. Please do not buy shipping boxes use old ones remember we are recycling. You will receive easy to follow detail instructions from the organizations. If you need a tax letter let them know in advance of them shipping you the postage paid labels. When the labels arrive use as instructed please do not alter (unless instructed).

If groups want to continue to collect on their own contact each group separately. Baitul Salaam recycles all the time and can give you tips on how to sustain a collection drive in your community. If a masjid wants to start recycling Sr. Hadayai will be glad to act as a consultant. She only ask that your community makes a donation to the Baitul Salaam Network, Inc. at least once a year, in-sha-llah.

Alhamduillah, this dateDrive is successfully completed.

For all HalfDaters, you got gifts. A limited edition Ramadan 1429 *HANDMADE* bookmarks.

You can claim yours at Ramadan 1429 bookmarks

Contact the site owner if you want to mix and match or put a custom wording!

Here is a sneak peak: Sample1 and Sample2

On the right-hand side under “Sections in this Shop” you will see a section called “HalfDate Members Only.” Once you enter that section, you will see 10 different bookmark designs for the Ramadan 1429 Special Edition collection. Right now, I am only listing 1 bookmark under each design (total of 10 on sale), but as orders come in, I will add more quantity (until 29 is reached). As you can see, I put the price as $0.25 each. The system would not allow me to enter $0 (I hope that’s okay). So the total cost for anyone in the US is $2 for each special edition bookmark (these are mostly shipping charges).

As far as custom bookmarks, just tell the members that they will have to contact me personally for this and that they can mix and match things that they like from the website. Custom bookmarks are $7.99 (plus shipping) for each one and $1 from each sale will go to HalfDate.

Eid Gifts for Duaa, Tawka, Afaf & Leena

Duaa, six, and her family suffered serious burns due to a gas explosion a year ago. Many non-Muslims have been gratefully helping them, yet many Muslims in NY don’t know about their case.

Their mom was completely unrecognizable at the hospital. Before she died, she removed all of her gold (jewelry) and asked for it to be given to charity, because she knew her death was coming, subhanAllah. At the day when sister Lazeena visited them for Eid, the children, one by one sat on their father’s lap and repeated after him, making du’a for Allah to place their mother in Jannah and to reunite them all together there with her, Ameen.

Watch this video and help them.

“Yes! I just showed my kids the video, and they are writing letters to Duaa and her sisters during homeschool today. We made it a lesson on caring about others. Jazak Allah khair for passing this along to us.” -Sr. Amina

Then Leena came home. SubhanAllah it was much more emotional seeing her because of her being blind. She walked into the living room, her arms stretched out feeling around. Her father told her she had guests and she was beaming. She felt around the livingroom hugging us, kissing us and giggling. No doubt she was the one who laughed and smiled the most out of all of them mashaAllah. However, it’s obvious she still needs time to get comfortable with her condition. Eating is very difficult for her to do on her own, she also seems to get really irritated and emotional whenever she’s playing with her sisters and they take something from her or even get up and leave without telling her. She starts wailing right away and throwing a tantrum. I can only imagine how she must feel. Remember she wasn’t born blind, she remembers the world of sight I’m sure, subhanAllah, and so now being trapped in a world of darkness will take her a lot of time to get used to, but overall she’s very happy mashaAllah.

Update: Read about the Eid visit to Al-Ghaithi family at http://alghaithigirls.com

Requests:

A sister has been collecting for them, so we just want to add an Eid gift package for the children $400.

And if you have kids, please ask them to send cards or letters to this family. Of course, make dua!

If you have any questions or comments, you can email lazeena.hosain[AT]yahoo[DOT]com (this is the same email for Paypal, please specify HalfDate Eid Gift, otherwise it goes for general donation)

We’d like you to also thank the firefighters and the hospital that took care of them, as the Prophet (SAW) said, “Whoever did not thank people, did not thank Allah.”

U Drive

2008
07.08

U Drive Has Failed :( But, let’s save it.

Please remember that the success of our Ummah, depends on individuals like YOU.

إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوْمٍ حَتَّى يُغَيِّرُوا مَا بِأَنْفُسِهِمْ

“Verily never will Allah change the condition of a people until they change it themselves.” [Ra'ad 13: 11]

Yes, many of you may argue that it was an artificial goal with an artificial deadline. But the lesson learned is: 1- Never have a wishy washy target :) 2- If you don’t feel the urgency about the conditions facing the Ummah, they will remain artificial to you.

May Allah forgive our sins and wake us up to help ourselves.

You + HalfDate = Done, in-sha-Allah.

HalfDate.com is NOT a charity, but a PROMOTION site for good causes. So when we feature a school or an individual, donations go directly to the end beneficiaries.

Month: Rajab 1429/July 2008 (end date July 27th)

What’s U Drive?

U stands for YOU as well as UMMAH!

Summary: Click here

If you don’t want to read… watch this:

Details:

You are about to make history…

to cultivate HalfDate.com into

the BIGGEST Sadaqa “driver” on the Internet.

YES, YOU! But with the help of your lord, the most powerful, Allah.

Your lord who told Ibrahim (peace and prayers be upon him and his family):

The call is on you, and the delivery is on us.

Your lord who made an unlettered person Muhammad (peace and prayers be upon him and his family) into the greatest teacher in history.

But, why do you need to help?

Because you want to. You like to earn the pleasure of Allah, and you want to make a difference in the Ummah. And with HalfDate, a difference is made every Hijri month, alhamduillah.

What if you don’t help?

The Ummah loses. You lose. HalfDate loses… because we are about to run out of juice.

So far, HalfDate’s core team has only one programmer and one promoter.

But, in-sha-Allah, with your help, you earn more rewards with exciting projects, such as Ramadan quiz site, Halal loan fund, awareness campaigns about Muslims around the world, and you get to accomplish BIG FAT projects like this appeal.

Ok, Bismillah, I’m in. Now what?

In this DateDrive, you will invite others to join HalfDate mailing list.

What’s the target number?

You decide.

Allahu Akbar, let's strive for
